Choose a preferred hospital for your loved one in case of emergency.HEALTH & MEDICAL
What You Should Know
Most likely, your loved one will need hospital care — possibly more than once. Be prepared: choose a hospital near their home ahead of time. Ideally, their doctor is affiliated with that hospital and also has attending privileges there. Make sure the hospital accepts your loved one’s insurance — and specify that only doctors who take that insurance should treat them. If other doctors treat them, the costs could be very high and end up coming out of your loved one's pocket.
Steps To Take
- Do a web search for ratings and reviews. These aren't 100% reliable but may give an overall idea of where the facility excels and where it needs work.
- Make sure doctors there accept your loved one's insurance.
- Once you’ve chosen the hospital, drive there and time the trip. Factor in traffic.
